New rules start in hopes to stop chronic wasting disease

There are some new rules to stop the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease in deer by the state department of natural resources.

The new regulations continue a ban on baiting and feeding in the lower peninsula and expands the ban to the UP's Core CWD Surveillance Area.

Also in the Lower Peninsula, implement a 4-point antler point restriction across all Deer and Deer Combo licenses for Mecosta, Montcalm and Ionia counties. This is part of an experimental APR to determine the impacts of APRs on deer populations in an area of known CWD occurrence.
